Imagine having the tastiest vegetables, ripened on the vine or
in the ground until the very last minute with full nutritional value
delivered to your neighborhood once a week for a set fee - all
while supporting your local farm(er). Less shopping (you'll
probably still supplement from the store), no supermarket
prices, no vegetables grown to look good after shipping,
picked weeks ahead and shipped from who knows where with
little or no nutritional value or taste.
Welcome to CSA (Community Supported
Agriculture)
Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) has become a
way for consumers to buy local, seasonal food directly from
a farmer. Here are the basics: a farmer offers a certain number of "shares" to the public. Typically the share consists of a box of vegetables, but other farm products may be included. Interested consumers purchase a share and in return receive a box (bag, basket) of seasonal produce each week throughout the farming season, providing a win-win for farm and consumer:
Twin Persimmons Farm:
- Gets to spend time marketing our food early in the year, before our 16 hour days in the field begin
- Receives payment early in the season, which helps with our cash flow
- Has an opportunity to get to know the people who eat the food we grow
You, the member consumer:
- Get to eat ultra-fresh food, with all the flavor and vitamin benefits
- Get exposed to new vegetables and new ways of cooking
- Get to support a local farm(er)
- Find that kids typically favor food from "their" farm – even veggies they've never been known to eat
- Develop a relationship with the farmer who grows their food and learn more about how food is grown
About Twin Persimmons Farm
Twin Persimmons Farm is managed sustainably, informed by multiple disciplines and perspectives including permaculture, biodynamics, agricultural research and integral sustainability. We grow produce for Houston, Spring, The Woodlands, Conroe, Montgomery, Bryan-College Station and associated communities. Click on the 'Join' tab in the upper left corner of this page for a complete list of drop locations.
The farm currently consists of three production locations, one in Grimes County (Plantersville) and two in Waller County (Magnolia and Hempstead). To this point, having three sites has provided enough acreage to allow proper production field rest and to implement proper soil care and building strategies. We are currently expanding our production location and facilities at our Hempstead location to become the farm hub and our primary production center. Our Hempstead site is the same location as Blackwood Educational Land Institute. Twin Persimmons Farm and Blackwood Educational Land Institute are teaming together to build a state-of-the-art small-scale farm and educational venue for land-based learning and the culinary arts.
Our specialty
We specialize in gourmet vegetable varieties that are rare or unavailable in produce markets including many heirloom varieties that taste great but aren't available in supermarkets because they do not withstand the rigors of shipping. Our selections are chosen with the chef and culinary artist in mind and represent a full palette of extraordinary flavor, color, texture and nutritional quality
